3D Cell Project
Due September 8th, 2010 You will be required to construct a model of a plant OR animal cell. All models must be made out of materials that will not spoil. Your project must have typed labels for each organelle. You will be able to have a partner when making this project. Use the questions in the grading section to help you develop a good project.
Each model must include the following organelles:
· Cell Wall (Plant cell only) * Ribosomes (free and attached) · Cell Membrane * Mitochondria · Nucleus (w/ nucleolus & chromosomes) * Vacuoles · Nuclear membrane (w/ pores) * Lysosomes (Animal Cell only) · Endoplasmic Reticulum (Rough and Smooth) * Chloroplast (Plant Cell only) · Golgi Bodies * Cilium (Animal cell) · Cytoplasm * Centrioles ( Animal cell) · Cytoskeleton
Grading:
Grades will be based on the following questions:
· Is your name on the front of the project? · Is the cell type identified? Tell if it is a plant or animal cell. · Is the model a 3-D representation of a plant or animal cell? · Are all the organelles included? (18 for animal cell and 17 for plant cell) · Are the organelles correctly labeled? Each label must be typed. · Are the relationships between the parts (if any) shown correctly? Are the ribosomes on the endoplasmic reticulum? Is the endoplasmic reticulum near the nucleus? If a plant cell, are the chloroplasts around the vacuole? · Are the materials acceptable? The materials cannot be food product except uncooked pasta or uncooked beans. Please do not use insulation or candle wax. · *******Is the model at least 1 foot by 1 foot? ***********
Bonus
Extra credit will be given to the top three students in each class for their creativity and neatness of their project.
